NSW RFS firefighters heating up Mardi Gras 2013

Summary

More than 50 members of the NSW Rural Fire Service (NSW RFS) will proudly feature in tonight's Mardi Gras Parade accompanied by a NSW RFS fire truck and support vehicle said NSW RFS Commissioner Shane Fitzsimmons.

“I know all the members marching in the parade are excited to be a part of this major event and can’t wait to see and hear the crowd.

“The Mardi Gras is a celebration of the diverse and varied community throughout Australia. As the RFS is made up of members that come from all walks of life, this gives them a chance to march with their family and friends in support of that diversity.

“Firefighters and their equipment usually stand out from a crowd pretty easily, especially in their bright yellow uniforms, but this year they have decided to march with some colourful banners to get in Mardi Gras mood.

“With so many newer members marching with a number of parade ‘veterans’ who are returning this year, I’m sure they will have yet another great night.

“I’m confident that the NSW RFS members will receive a warm welcome from the crowd, just as they have in each of the six years we have been a part of Mardi Gras," said Commissioner Fitzsimmons.
