Praise for long serving Northern Beaches volunteers

Summary

NSW Rural Fire Service (NSW RFS) volunteers from the Northern Beaches District have been honoured for their longstanding commitment to the local community at a special medal presentation held in Mona Vale this evening.

NSW Senior Assistant Commissioner Bruce McDonald AFSM presented seven Long Service Medals to volunteers from the Warringah Pittwater Headquarters Brigade in recognition of their service and dedication to the community.

Senior Assistant Commissioner McDonald said that in total, these awards represented 102 years of combined service in the Northern Beaches District area.

“There are three members at tonight’s presentation who have each given 15 or more years’ service to their Brigade and their communities,” Senior Assistant Commissioner McDonald said.

“The dedication of all the volunteers being recognised is inspiring.”

Senior Assistant Commissioner McDonald made particular mention of John Sullivan, who has received the Long Service Medal in recognition of his 31 years of service.

“John has been an active member of the Warringah Pittwater Headquarters Brigade for more than three decades,” Senior Assistant Commissioner McDonald said.

“In that time, John has attended many fires both in the area and further afield and was a part of the Brigade assisting in the 1994 fires.

“Congratulations is also extended to Phillip Secomb for his 16 years’ service and to David Weynton, on his commitment to the Brigade over the last 15 years.

“Every one of these volunteers and all being acknowledged today is worthy of our most sincere thanks.

“I would like to personally commend them, not only for their commitment to the Service, but also to their community.”

Senior Assistant Commissioner McDonald said the hard work and professionalism of all Northern Beaches District members does not go unnoticed and this is a great opportunity for the broader community to express their gratitude and say thank you.

“We must also thank the family, friends and colleagues of all our volunteers,” Senior Assistant Commissioner McDonald said.

“We know it takes their support and patience to help Rural Fire Service members do what they do.

“It is an absolute honour to present these awards and to take a moment in which we can reflect upon the outstanding achievements of these members.”
