Region South Group Officers Conference

Summary

Ninety NSW Rural Fire Services (NSW RFS) volunteers and staff throughout Region South, will be attending the Region South Group Officers Conference in Wentworth to discuss important topics leading up to the Bush Fire Season.

NSW RFS Assistant Commissioner Dominic Lane, Director Regional Services will officially open the conference on Saturday morning.

"At the conference we are seeing representation from 34 Local Government Areas spanning from Bega in the south east to Wentworth in the west," said Assistant Commissioner Lane.

"During the conference, topics such as fatigue management, command control and communications, importance of public information and fire analysis will be delivered to the participants followed by an open forum.

"Conferences like these are important ahead of the fire season to ensure we are all prepared to deal with the upcoming season.

"With recent rain we hae seen increase grass and crop growth right across NSW. No one should be comvplacent about the risk of fires this season. It will only take one or two weeks of warm dry, windy weather to dry up fuels and make it very susceptible to bush fires," Assistant Commissioner Lane said.

The Conference is being held at the Wentworth Services and Sporting Club, Darling Street, Wentworth on Saturday 13 August 2011.

During the conference Assistant Commissioner Lane, will also take the opportunity to handover three new fire trucks to local brigades in Wentworth Shire.

"The NSW RFS is committed to ensuring that our volunteers are equipped with the necessary equipment needed in order to go about their duties. These new vehicles are replacing the older style models and will help the volunteers continue their outstanding work in the community."

"The acquisition of these appliances clearly demonstrates the commitment between the NSW RFS and our Local Government Councils and will greatly enhance and assist in the ongoing protection of our local communities."

A dinner will be held on Saturday night with guest speakers.
