Springwood High School celebrates cadet graduation

NSW RFS Executive Director, Membership and Strategic Services Ms Trina Schmidt praised the students who took part in the 10 week program, which began in June this year.

“The course introduces participants to the important role of volunteer firefighters within the community and provides them with skills that will last a lifetime,” Ms Schmidt said.

“Students were taught fire behaviour and essential fire safety techniques, and gained an appreciation of the work our emergency services do every day in this state.

"Last year, 850 students completed the cadet program which also offers participants the opportunity to build their confidence and experience the camaraderie that comes with volunteering.”

Ms Schmidt said it’s great to see genuine enthusiasm for this important community based program.

“In addition to our NSW RFS members, I would also like to extend a special thanks to the Principal, teachers and staff from Springwood High School for helping to make this program such a success.”

Ms Schmidt also paid tribute to the volunteers and staff from the Blue Mountains who facilitated the course.

"NSW RFS members enjoy working closely with schools and communities to ensure that everyone is as well prepared as possible for the very real threat of fire,” Ms Schmidt said.

“The Service is proud to pass on the ideals of community service, dedication and teamwork to the next generation.”
