Tamworth District celebrates long serving members and new trucks

Summary

NSW Rural Fire Service (NSW RFS) Commissioner Shane Fitzsimmons presented four new trucks and twenty medals to some of the Tamworth District's most experienced firefighters today.

Commissioner Fitzsimmons acknowledged the unwavering dedication of these members and thanked them for selflessly giving up their time, noting that some of those receiving Long Service Medals had been Brigade members for more than 30 years.

"These members are shining examples of the steadfast dedication demonstrated by NSW RFS volunteer firefighters right across the state."

Commissioner Fitzsimmons said everyone living in the region is aware of the hard work, and commitment that comes with being a NSW RFS member.

"Whether it's responding to bush fire emergencies, like those we've seen in recent times, or assisting with motor vehicle accidents, our volunteers are on hand 24 hours a day, seven days a week," Commissioner Fitzsimmons said.

"While these volunteers certainly don't expect awards or accolades, all of them are most worthy of our sincere gratitude and thanks."

Commissioner Fitzsimmons also congratulated the Tamworth District on the addition of four fire trucks, noting they would advance local firefighting efforts.

"The NSW RFS is committed to providing firefighters with the equipment they need to carry out the important work they do in protecting their local communities from fire," Commissioner Fitzsimmons said.

"These new vehicles are replacing older style models and will allow firefighters to continue providing a high level of emergency service to residents in the Tamworth area.

"These valuable new fire trucks are worth a combined total of more than $770,000, but to our volunteers and the communities they protect it is a priceless asset.

"These trucks will help local brigades fight bush and grass fires, as well as provide the unique equipment required to put out car and house fires," said Commissioner Fitzsimmons.

"I'd like to extend the thanks of not only the Service, but communities in the Tamworth area for the exceptional level of fire protection you provide."
