Veteran Sutherland volunteers honoured

Summary

NSW Rural Fire Service (NSW RFS) Sutherland District members today recognised the long-standing achievements of 49 volunteers at two medal presentation ceremonies.

NSW RFS Assistant Commissioner Stuart Midgley was honoured to present 44 Long Service Medals and six National Medals to Sutherland volunteers, in recognition of their ongoing commitment to the local community.

The 49 medal recipients have accumulated a total 839 years of service between them, with 13 members having dedicated more than 20 years to their brigades.

Assistant Commissioner Midgley made particular mention of Mark Cassidy, Robert Lowe, Megan Roberts, Stuart Lord, Furio Micheli and Martin Surrey, who were each awarded the National Medal.

National Medals are presented to NSW RFS members who go above and beyond, as an acknowledgment of their years of diligent service.

Two volunteers, Reginald Holmes and Alan Barnes, received Long Service Medal clasps in recognition of their more than 40 years of service with the Engadine Rural Fire Brigade.

"Each of the volunteers being recognised today has demonstrated an exceptional level of commitment to their community over the years and these medals are our proud acknowledgement of their efforts," Assistant Commissioner Midgley said.

"I know they will continue to serve their local communities for many years to come and share their knowledge, experience and firefighting skills both locally and further afield.
