Bush Fire Information Line Operator
Role Description
Scope
The Bush Fire Information Line Operator (BFILO) is responsible for ensuring calls to the state wide 1800 Bush Fire Information Line (BFIL) are dealt with in a professional and timely manner.
Fundamental Protocols underpin the actions of all NSW Rural Fire Service (RFS) members and must be adhered to at all times. They outline the Principles of being an RFS member and provide guidance on conduct to support the safety and wellbeing of members.
Key Accountabilities
- Assists callers with all enquiries.
- Maintains an overview of current fire situations across the state based on information from the State Public Information Unit (SPIU), delivered through the Bush Fire Information Line Team Leader (BFITL).
- Maintains an understanding of key messages that are being disseminated to the public.
- Maintains a log of calls.
- Identifies any trends in caller’s requirements that may require media information, or the information in the Incident Management Team (IMT) Public Information Unit (PIU), to be modified. This information should be provided to the Bush Fire Information Line Team Leader (BFILTL) or Bush Fire Information Line Coordinator (BFILC), who will disseminate to the State Public Information Coordinator (SPIC).
Special Considerations
- The BFILO reports to the BFILTL.
