State Online Content Supervisor
Role Description
Scope
The State Online Content Supervisor is responsible for coordinating the dissemination of public information and warnings through the NSW Rural Fire Service (RFS) website and social media channels during major operations under the guidance of the State Public Information Coordinator (SPIC).
Fundamental Protocols underpin the actions of all RFS members and must be adhered to at all times. They outline the Principles of being an RFS member and provide guidance on conduct to support the safety and wellbeing of members.
Key Accountabilities
- Liaises with the SPIC to obtain information and maintain an overview of RFS incidents.
- Maintains specific knowledge of incidents, including the current and forecast weather conditions, fire spread predictions and messages to the community in affected areas.
- Determines, in consultation with the SPIC and State Media Supervisor, what information is to be published to Alerts and Warnings on the RFS website and social media channels.
- Manages the preparation and publication of all online content.
- Oversees RFS social media intelligence gathering, ensuring this information is disseminated through the SPIC or State Public Information Officer (SPIO) to the appropriate role within the State Operations Centre (OpsCen).
- Monitors social media content published by State Social Media Officers and local Public Information Officers (PIOs) and provides advice as necessary.
- Monitors social media for issues that may affect the RFS or RFS members.
- Liaises with agency representatives when publishing their information on the RFS website and assists with their online content as appropriate.
- Ensures that alerts and warnings, such as Total Fire Bans (TOBANs) and Harvest Safety Alerts are disseminated online.
- Develops information for the SPIC to disseminate through social media channels, Hazards Near Me, relevant websites, the Bush Fire Information Line (BFIL), Minister’s Office and other stakeholders.
- Liaises with the State Intelligence Coordinator (SIC), the State Fire Behaviour Supervisor, and Major Incident Coordinators (MICs) through the SPIO and SPIC to identify any specific social media intelligence requirements and share social media intelligence.
- When activated, manages the State Social Media Officers and State Website Officers.
Special Considerations
- The State Online Content Supervisor reports to the State Public Information Coordinator (SPIC).
- At all times the State Online Content Supervisor shall maintain a log and ensure the timely inclusion of information into ICON.
