Bush Fire Information Line Coordinator

Role Description

Scope

The Bush Fire Information Line Coordinator (BFILC) is responsible for facilitating and managing the provision and reception of all information delivered by telephone through the Bush Fire Information Line (BFIL) when activated. The BFILC also ensures the BFIL is resourced adequately in consultation with the BFILTL.

Fundamental Protocols underpin the actions of all NSW Rural Fire Service (RFS) members and must be adhered to at all times. They outline the Principles of being an RFS member and provide guidance on conduct to support the safety and wellbeing of members.

Key Accountabilities

  • Establishes the BFIL.
  • Manages the BFIL roster.
  • Liaises through the State Public Information Coordinator (SPIC) to obtain information from all relevant positions to maintain an overview of the current fire situation state wide.
  • Briefs and advises the BIFLTL on major fires using major fire update information.
  • When required, liaises with other agencies involved to deal with issues if they occur.
  • Ensures that incident intelligence received through the BFIL is disseminated to the State Operations Controller (SOC)/Deputy State Operations Controller (DSOC) and Major Incident Coordinators (MICs), through the SPIC.
  • Attends and provides information to State Operations Centre (OpsCen) briefings as required by the SOC.

Special Considerations

  • The BFILC reports to the SPIC.
  • The Bush Fire Information Line Team Leader (BFILTL) reports to this position.
  • At all times the BFILC shall maintain a log and ensure the timely inclusion of information into ICON.
