State Media Supervisor
Role Description
Scope
The State Media Supervisor determines communication strategies for current incidents throughout the state and oversees the release of this information to the media.
Fundamental Protocols underpin the actions of all RFS members and must be adhered to at all times. They outline the Principles of being an RFS member and provide guidance on conduct to support the safety and wellbeing of members.
Key Accountabilities
- Manages the dissemination of all RFS operational information to the community through the media.
 - Liaises with the State Public Information Coordinator (SPIC) to obtain information and maintain an overview of RFS incidents.
 - Ensures all media enquiries are addressed in a timely fashion
 - Oversees all information provided to the media by State Media Officers.
 - Provides Public Information Officers (PIOs) with media support, as well as monitoring all comment(s) and information to the media from an Incident Management Team (IMT).
 - Liaises with other agency media teams to support development of their key messages.
 - Assists in the provision of information to the SPIC.
 - Ensures media present in the State Operations Centre (OpsCen) are supported and informed.
 - Coordinates media briefings when scheduled.
 - Provides interviews to media as required.
 - Provides advice to RFS spokespersons as necessary.
 
Special Considerations
- The State Media Supervisor is activated by, and reports to, the SPIC.
 - At all times the State Media Supervisor shall maintain a log and ensure the timely inclusion of information into ICON.
