State Public Information Assistant

Role Description

Scope

The State Public Information Assistant (SPIA) is responsible for providing support to the State Public Information Officer (SPIO) and State Public Information Unit (SPIU).

Fundamental Protocols underpin the actions of all RFS members and must be adhered to at all times. They outline the Principles of being an RFS member and provide guidance on conduct to support the safety and wellbeing of members.

Key Accountabilities

  • Facilitates the flow of information between the SPIO and Public Information Officers (PIOs) within Incident Management Teams (IMTs).
  • Facilitates the deployment of PIOs, Media Liaison Officers (MLOs), Community Liaison Officers (CLOs) and Community Field Liaison Officers (CFLOs) to IMTs.
  • Facilitates the flow of information between the SPIO and other functions and agencies within the State Operations Centre (OpsCen), e.g. Major Incident Coordinator (MIC), State Intelligence Coordinator (SIC), Fire Behaviour Analyst (FBAn).

Special Considerations

  • The SPIA is activated by, and reports to, the SPIO.
  • At all times the SPIA shall maintain a log and ensure the timely inclusion of information into ICON.
