State Social Media Officer
Role Description
Scope
The State Social Media Officer posts public information and warnings content to the NSW Rural Fire Service (RFS) social media accounts, monitors activity and replies to comments and messages as required.
Fundamental Protocols underpin the actions of all RFS members and must be adhered to at all times. They outline the Principles of being an RFS member and provide guidance on conduct to support the safety and wellbeing of members.
Key Accountabilities
- Liaises with the State Public Information Coordinator (SPIC) or Online Content Supervisor, if activated, to obtain information and maintain an overview of RFS incidents.
 - Maintains specific knowledge of incidents, including the current and forecast weather conditions, fire spread predictions and messages to the community in affected areas.
 - Prepares and shares content to RFS social media channels using approved format/guidelines and relevant tags as required.
 - Monitors social media account activity and responds as required, and time allows.
 - Monitors social media for issues that may affect the RFS or RFS members.
 - Critically analyses and assesses all information gathered, and shares with the State Operations Controller (SOC)/Deputy State Operations Controller (DSOC), State Duty Operations Officer (SDOO), SPIC, and State Public Information Officer (SPIO) as required.
 - Develops standardised responses for frequently asked questions received in comments and messages.
 - Identifies opportunities and downloads content for social media. E.g. Aircraft photos/live cameras/Go Pro footage etc.
 
Special Considerations
- The State Social Media Officer reports to the State Online Content Supervisor and is activated by the SPIC in conjunction with the State Media Supervisor.
 - The State Social Media Officer should seek approval for sharing information, only when it falls outside of State Public Information Unit (SPIU) business as usual.
 - At all times the State Social Media Officer shall maintain a log and ensure the timely inclusion of information into ICON.
