Travelling through grassland

If you plan on travelling near paddocks and grassland over the summer period, you are at risk of grass fires.

Grass fires can start easily. They are hot, travel fast, and can cut roads and trails.

High risk activities can include:

  • Bushwalking
  • Camping
  • Horseriding
  • Picnics
  • Driving
  • Bike riding

How to stay safe when travelling

  • Check on conditions before you leave - check the Fire Danger Rating for the area you're visiting. Reconsider high risk activities on days of increased fire danger.
  • Stay up to date - carry a mobile phone and download the Hazards Near Me NSW app before you leave.
  • Know where to go if a fire starts - it could be a safer location well away from bush and grasslands.
  • Use fire safely - check for any local restrictions including fire bans.
