Aboriginal Targeted Opportunities

Join our RFS Mitigation Crews

We're recruiting for new members to join our Mitigation Crews.

If you love working outdoors, have knowledge to share about country, and want to give back to our community, this could be a job for you.

We have 39 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander targeted roles in our Mitigation Crews, in locations across NSW.

Our Mitigation Crews assist at-risk community members through our AIDER program, assist with hazard reduction activities, cultural burns and firefighting support. And you'll have the opportunity to support front line operational work.

There are paid full-time roles available in these locations:

  • Crew Member - Taree, Ulmurra, Urunga, Tamworth, Bega, Nowra, Tumut, Albury, Bourke, Brewarrina, Dubbo
  • Crew Leader - Macksville, Taree, Urunga, Tamworth, Moree, Bega, Nowra, Albury, Bourke, Brewarrina

By joining our Mitigation Crews you'll get skills for life, with paid training, ongoing development opportunities, and an attractive salary.

And importantly, you'll be helping to keep our community and country safe from fire.

Interested in Joining?

Applications close  on 4 June 2023, so start getting your application together now. Anyone can apply for these roles, however they are targeted to the employment of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, given the nature of the work our crews do and the communities they work in.

Here's how to apply.

STEP 1 Check the candidate information guide. It tells you all about the role, locations and the qualifications you need.
STEP 2 Prepare your application. You'll need a resume of up to four pages that outlines your experience, job history and skills. You'll also need two professional referees and a copy of any qualifications required for the role.
STEP 3 Apply through the I Work For NSW website. You need to apply to this site by 4 June to be considered.
