Farmers Campfire Gatherings

Summary

The NSW Rural Fire Service Canobolas Zone aims to bring together drought affected farmers in the Central West with Farmers Campfire gatherings being organised across the Zone. As the rural community and our famers are intertwined with the RFS we believe that it is vitally important to provide support and friendship during these difficult times.

The Farmers Campfires are being held in the Eugowra and Cumnock/Yeoval area in September to bring together community members and lift their spirits.

Canobolas Zone Manager, Superintendent David Hoadley said we hope the community will come along and have a chat about the challenges and share ideas which may help them through the current drought.

“We understand that many people become more isolated during a drought as they become stuck in the day to day management of livestock and can become isolated from friends and neighbours. We will be providing the opportunity to have a drink, enjoy a barbeque and have a chat”, Superintendent Hoadley said.

“People need to see they are not alone; there is community support and assistance which is available and that is why we are holding these Farmer campfire gatherings.

There will be information at the campfires on drought support from the State and Federal Government and also from the CWA and other organisations which are helping with the current drought.

The first gathering will be at the Eulimore Bushfire Brigade shed on Max Gransden’s property, 98 Eulimore Road on Friday 7 September at 6pm.

The second RFS campfire gathering is scheduled for the Cumnock area and will be held at the Cumnock Showground from 6pm on Friday 21 September.

“It’s important that we all stick together during floods, fires and now drought and the RFS campfire gatherings are a relaxed way to come and have a chat,” he said.

“We hope to see many members of these local communities come along and take a few hours break from the drought.”
