FIRE and Rescue NSW were kept busy Sunday when a grass fire consumed a hectare of land along the Newell Highway and near Valley View Road at Mogriguy.

About 10.30am Rural Fire Service crews from Terramumgamine, Barrabudine, Eumungerie and Dubbo headquarters attended to the fire which ran near the rail corridor.

About 22 kilometres out of Dubbo, smoke could be seen on the horizon from the city.

A resident said the fire was put out, thanks to a joint effort between the crews, in half an hour.

Water bomber planes dropped water over the area to assist firefighters.
