Celebration for North West Zone volunteers, new truck and station upgrade

Summary

The NSW Rural Fire Service (NSW RFS) North West Zone will celebrate the achievements of volunteers today while welcoming the handover of a new vehicle and the official opening of the upgrades to the Nyngan Headquarters Brigade station.

NSW RFS Assistant Commissioner Peter McKechnie will attend a ceremony at the Nyngan Headquarters Brigade to thank all involved for their ongoing dedication to protecting lives and properties in the area.

Assistant Commissioner McKechnie said the $115,000 upgrade to the Nyngan Headquarters Brigade station on Lawlor Street would provide enhanced support to North West Zone volunteers, as well as the communities they protect, particular in the Bogan Shire.

“The upgrade to the station features an extra bay for an additional vehicle,” Assistant Commissioner McKechnie said.

“The new extension was built to house the addition of a Category 6 appliance that will be utilised by Rural Fire Brigades right across the Bogan Shire.

This new truck, worth more than $420,000 will be officially handed over at the ceremony. The extra vehicle will provide for a greater capacity response to grass and structure fires across the region.

“Ensuring our men and women in the NSW RFS have the most modern equipment and resources to protect their local communities has been, and will remain, a key priority.”

Assistant Commissioner McKechnie will also present Long Service Medals to 19 members from the North West Zone in recognition of their ongoing commitment to their local communities.

“The 19 medal recipients have accumulated a total of 484 years of service between them,” Assistant Commissioner McKechnie said.

“I’d particularly like to congratulate Jack Carter and Roger Ward from the Nyngan Headquarters Brigade, both being recognised for their 60 years’ service each,” Assistant Commissioner McKechnie said.

“Both should be congratulated for the vital role they have and do play in the areas firefighting operations.

“Each volunteer being recognised today has demonstrated an exceptional level of commitment over the years to their community and these medals are our proud acknowledgement of their efforts.

“I offer my sincere thanks and gratitude to all the NSW RFS members for their continued outstanding efforts and extend this to their families, friends and colleagues who allow our volunteers to do what they do.”
