Community safety enhanced with Mt Riverview Brigade extension

Summary

Communities in the Blue Mountains will be the beneficiaries of a newly extended bush fire brigade station in Mt Riverview following its official opening today.

NSW Rural Fire Service (RFS) Chief Superintendent Greg Wardle will be joined by special guests to celebrate the event this afternoon.

“The completion of this $400,000 station extension is a major milestone for the brigade’s 89 members and local community,” said Chief Superintendent Wardle.

“Originally built in 1969, the station has seen a marked increase in operational demands over the years. The upgraded facility now accommodates a larger fire truck; more space for crew training, community engagement, and meetings; improved parking and access; and amenities.

“Additionally, the extension includes a new laundry area equipped with industrial washing facilities, enabling members to clean and prepare their personal protective clothing (PPC) for the next call-out.”

Chief Superintendent Wardle said the upgrade not only supported local RFS volunteers in their ongoing mission to protect the local community but also provided a valuable resource for other emergency services during major incidents.

“The RFS is committed to equipping its members with the latest firefighting technology and facilities to ensure they are ready to respond to an emergency,” he said.

“The dedication of RFS volunteers is truly remarkable and today’s event is a chance to publicly recognise their outstanding service. These men and women are on standby 24/7, and we are immensely proud of and grateful for their contributions to our community.

“We understand it takes a community to support our volunteers, and we appreciate the patience and understanding that enable them to save lives and protect property.”
