Liverpool Range volunteers to be recognised for long service

Summary

The NSW Rural Fire Service (NSW RFS) Liverpool Range District will recognise and celebrate the dedication and commitment of long serving members at a special presentation this afternoon.

Member for Upper Hunter Michael Johnsen and NSW RFS Senior Assistant Commissioner Bruce McDonald will join local volunteers to present 38 Long Service medals at the ceremony to be held at the Liverpool Range Fire Control Centre.

“These members do not volunteer their time for the accolades, however these medals are a proud acknowledgement of the commitment shown by these individuals over the years,” Mr Johnsen said.

“More than 1,405 years of service will be recognised today and I know that the community is thankful for the world-class level of fire protection afforded to them by volunteers across the Liverpool Range District.

“I personally extend my gratitude to all of our dedicated firefighters for their continued service.”

Senior Assistant Commissioner McDonald said he is honoured to present Peter Blake with the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th Clasps of his NSW RFS Long Service Medal.

“Peter has been a dedicated volunteer with the NSW RFS for 65 years as a member of Kayuga, Dalswinston and Gundy Brigades,” Senior Assistant Commissioner McDonald said.

“This is our opportunity to thank Peter for the dedication he has shown to his brigades and the commitment to the safety of the community.”

Senior Assistant Commissioner McDonald also acknowledged the contribution of Don Gardiner, who received the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th Clasps of his Long Service Medal in recognition of his 64 years of service as a member of the Dangarfield Brigade.

“Well done also to Neil Barwick on his 63 years with the Big Jack’s Creek and McDonald’s Brigade, a volunteer who started his active service after finishing high school,” Assistant Commissioner McDonald said.

“Each volunteer being recognised has demonstrated an exceptional level of commitment to their community.

“I offer my sincere thanks and gratitude to all the NSW RFS volunteers and staff who continue to work hard for their communities.

“We must also thank the family, friends, employers and colleagues of these and all volunteers. We know it takes their support and patience to help Rural Fire Service members do what they do.”
